Sebago Lake, Maine's deepest lake and second-largest body of water, inspired our company's name. Growing up along its shores shaped both my personal development and professional outlook, influencing the way I approach independent schools consulting. The lake taught me the importance of adaptability and collaboration, values that are integral to my work with schools. Its vastness and depth serve as a metaphor for exploring creative solutions and fostering growth within educational communities. Though I now live on another Maine lake, Sebago's influence remains fundamental to who I am and how I work, providing a steady source of inspiration and purpose.
Lakes have been my sanctuary throughout my career in education, offering a place to reflect, re-energize, and find renewed purpose during breaks. This connection inspired the founding of Sebago Partners, which embodies these same restorative qualities. Just as individuals need time for reflection, successful schools must stay anchored to their core mission and values. Today's schools face mounting pressures and competing demands that can blur their sense of direction. Like its namesake lake, Sebago Partners guides schools through this challenge, creating space for meaningful reflection and helping them establish a clear, sustainable path forward that aligns with their fundamental values.
From my years teaching English, I've been drawn to water's profound metaphorical resonance. Its forms - from tranquil ponds to thundering oceans - speak to the full spectrum of human experience, embodying both serene contemplation and raw, untamed power. In my own life, water has become a symbol of mental clarity, emotional depth, and inner peace. This deep connection has shaped my daily ritual: when weather permits, I begin each morning with a swim in the lake, letting the cool waters wash away my thoughts and prepare me for the day ahead.
